Integrate native social media apps with Okta using Cerby

Social media networks like Facebook, Instagram, X, TikTok, Snapchat, Pinterest, and LinkedIn are built for individuals. How can the social media admins protect personal credentials and profiles used for work purposes? And how can social media managers securely share logins for corporate social media accounts without ever revealing the password or requiring someone to be the point of contact for 2FA?

In this blog, we’ll show you how to bring the most common social media networks into the identity perimeter with Cerby.

Prerequisites

  • An Okta tenant with access to manage app integrations
  • Users and groups created within the Okta directory
  • A Cerby workspace with Workspace Owner role

Step 1: Configure SSO between Cerby and Okta with SAML

This integration supports two key features:

  • Service provider-initiated authentication flow
  • Automatic user account creation in Cerby

Check out more detailed documentation here to set up Okta SSO.

Step 2: Enable Okta user provisioning with SCIM

This setup supports five key features, which extends identity processes originating from Okta to corporate social media access:

  • Push users
  • Update user attributes
  • Push groups
  • Deactivate users
  • Reactivate users

Read more detailed documentation here to set up Okta user provisioning.

Step 3: Connect to your social media platforms

Shared social media logins (i.e. X, Instagram, Pinterest)

Follow these steps to protect the corporate credentials that are shared across team members, contractors, and agencies.

  1. Select the social media network you want to add.
  2. Save your username and password.
  3. Set up Cerby-managed email and SMS.
  4. Set up automation for shared 2FA.
  5. Share access without ever having to share the actual password.

In the video below, Cerby Solutions Engineer Kyle Harris walks through these steps for X, formerly known as Twitter.

Social media business centers

Every social media business center operates a little differently, but generally this is the area where marketers manage permissions to the digital assets like a Facebook page or a TikTok ad campaign. Reference the specific documentation articles below for the most common business managers so you can centralize how you manage permissions to marketing digital assets.

Step 4: Click to login

On the Cerby dashboard, simply click on the tile of the app or shared login you’d like to access. Cerby will automatically log you in, and you're ready to rock and roll!
