CrowdTangle

CrowdTangle is a social media analytics and content discovery platform that was acquired by Facebook (now Meta) in 2016. It tracks and surfaces public content from Facebook, Instagram, and Reddit, allowing users to monitor how posts perform across pages and groups. Journalists, researchers, publishers, and political scientists used the tool to identify trending content, track misinformation, and analyze engagement patterns in near real time. The platform provided browser extensions and dashboards that ranked posts by interactions, helping newsrooms find viral stories and helping academics study platform dynamics. Meta announced it would shut down CrowdTangle and has been transitioning users to its Content Library and API as replacement tools for researchers and civil society organizations.
