About AS400*
AS/400 refers to IBM's midrange server family, originally Application System/400, which evolved through iSeries and System i into today's IBM Power Systems running the IBM i operating system. The platform is known for integrating the operating system, database, and security model into a single tightly coupled stack designed for high reliability. It remains widely deployed in banking, insurance, manufacturing, distribution, and retail, often running core transactional applications written in RPG or COBOL that have been maintained for decades. Users are typically internal business staff accessing green-screen or modernized interfaces, alongside system administrators and application developers maintaining the environment. Because these systems frequently hold systems of record, access is usually governed by native platform user profiles rather than modern identity providers, which is why they surface in access management inventories.
